To some people the size of the garden is as important as the size of the house. Lots of people love gardening and are willing to put the time and effort into making their garden look nice. Gardening is hard work and mowing the lawn, pulling out the weeds, cutting the hedges and keeping it tidy in general is a labour of love.

To some people having a garden is not a good idea as they do not have the time or don't want to make time to keep it looking nice. People who have children usually want to have a garden for somewhere for the children to play safely and some people come up with some fantastic outdoor entertainment ideas for their garden. Areas of the garden might be turned into a mini children's playground complete with swings, sandpit and a children's playhouse. It is good to see the children playing outside and having a large garden is ideal for this purpose. Decking has become very popular over the last few years enabling people to have a sitting out area complete with table and chairs. During the summer months friends and family might be invited round to enjoy a barbeque and a few beers.

Gardens are no longer just somewhere to grow a few flowers, although of course lots of people still do. To some people their gardens have become an extension of their house and they have installed garden lights, garden furniture and in some gardens even hot tubs and whirlpools. These gardens aren’t just for the children to play in but for the adults to play as well. A garden is our own personal outdoor space to use as we like. There has been a big interest in organic gardening over the last few years and many gardeners now grow their own fruit and vegetables. Some even keep a few chickens in their gardens so have a daily supply of eggs. Many people would love to have a garden but perhaps live in an apartment. If they were to contact their local council it is possible to rent an allotment where they could grow what they wanted. However, there is a waiting list so it could take a while to get one.
